Silicon Mountain Project is a technology ecosystem and cluster, situated within mountain area of Manchester Jamaica, with its epicentre in the parish capital of Mandeville. This Silicon Mountain technology ecosystem or cluster is currently home to tech start-ups and a growing community of developers, designers, business professionals.
The Project will adopt and embrace the following ethos edited from an open letter from Silicon Valley Technology Sector Leaders written by Katie Jacobs Stanton, former vice president of global media at Twitter and a former special adviser on innovation at the U.S. State Department.
“We are Inventors, Entrepreneurs, Engineers, Investors, Researchers, And Business Leaders working in the Caribbean and more specifically the technology sector in Mandeville Manchester Jamaica. We strive to make Silicon Mountain, The Business Technology and Innovation Hub of the Caribbean, a source of widely-shared prosperity, and a hallmark of regional leadership.
We believe in an inclusive community that fosters opportunity, creativity and a level playing field, an open exchange of ideas, free movement of people, and productive engagement with the outside world that is critical to our economy—and that provide the foundation for innovation and growth.
We firmly believe that this starts with the human talent that drives innovation forward. We believe that the central Jamaica regions diversity is our strength. Great ideas come from all parts of society, and we champion that broad-based creative potential.
We also believe that progressive policies will help us attract and retain some of the brightest minds on earth—scientists, entrepreneurs, and creators.
We also believe in the free and open exchange of ideas, including over the Internet, as a seed from which innovation springs.
Finally, we believe that the Government plays an important role in the technology economy by investing in infrastructure, education and scientific research.
And so, we stand for policies and initiatives that embrace the ideals that will build the regions technology industry: freedom of expression, openness to newcomers, and equality of opportunity, public investments in research and infrastructure, and respect for the rule of law. We embrace an optimistic vision for a more inclusive Region, where innovation continues to fuel opportunity, prosperity and leadership.”
Battle tested entrepreneurs who have done it and still at it. They understand from first-hand experience the complexities of putting ideas into action and scaling them.
